The few times I’ve suffered from bouts of insomnia has made me deeply grateful for a good night’s sleep. If you haven’t been through it, it’s hard to imagine the agonies you go through when you’re lying, watching the minutes tick slowly by.

There are so many helpful suggestions people will give – and you try with new hope each time – warm baths, soothing music, not eating. Sometimes there may be a small improvement, often nothing at all.

In my holistic healthcare practice, I have worked with many people who suffer from long-term insomnia. Some may have been taking medication that is no longer working, others don’t choose to go down that route and want something more holistic.

There are some very good herbal remedies to help with sleep, such as Passiflora or Valerian and some excellent relaxation techniques. I’ll write more about them in another article.
